THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF THE FRIENDS OF KOSCIUSZKO AT WEST POINT INVITES YOU TO PERUSE DETAILS OF ITS ANNUAL PROGRAM OF APRIL 28-29, 2017, FOR ITS CENTERPIECE 14TH ANNUAL KOSCIUSZKO CONFERENCE AND KOSCIUSZKO DAY PROGRAM RESPECTIVELY, WHICH WILL REMAIN ON THIS PAGE AS SUBSTANTIVE EXAMPLES UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2017. 10:30 - 05:30 p.m.  Conference: "In the Spirit of the Worldwide Legacy of Tadeusz Kosciuszko During the Bicentennial Anniversary Year of His Death"  

Conference Featured Participants:

Panelist: Mieczyslaw B. Biskupski, Ph.D., of New Britain, CT; Professor and Stanislas A. Blejwas Endowed Chair for Polish and Polish American Studies, Central Connecticut State University; President, Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America; author specializing in the history of Central Europe and Poland. Title of Conference presentation: "Hope and Struggle, 1817-2017."

Panelist: Pawel Markiewicz, of Revere, MA; Ph.D. Candidate in History, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland and 'Etudia 4' Doctoral Fellow, Harvard University Ukrainian Research Institute, Cambridge, MA. Title of Conference presentation: "Volodymyr Kubilovych: Population Displacement and Ethnic Cleansing in Nazi-Occupied Poland." 

Panelist: James S. Pula, Ph.D., of Chesterton, IN; Professor of History, and former Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Purdue University N/W, Westville, IN; author; Kosciuszko biographer; American Civil War and Reconstruction, ethnic and immigration studies; past President, Polish American Historical Association; Board Member, Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America. Title of Conference presentation: "Mr. Jefferson's Secret Envoy."

Panelist: Douglas L. Wheeler, Ph.D., of Durham, NH; Prince Henry the Navigator Professor Emeritus, Department of History, University of New Hampshire; Iberian and African history, history of international intelligence and espionage; and contract consulting on Portuguese and African affairs for the U. S. Department of State and other government agencies. Title of Conference presentation: "Eagle Eyes: Polish Codebreakers' Contributions to World War II's Ultra Secret."

Panelist: Felix Molski, of Sefton, New South Wales, Australia; Polish Australian activist, educator, author, world-traveler documenting Polish heroism, and proponent for the wider memorialization of explorer-scientist-humanitarian Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki (1787-1873). Title of presentation: "Memorializing Kosciuszko Worldwide."  

Panelist: Izabela Joanna (Bozek) Barry, of Yonkers, NY; Adjunct Assistant Professor, College of Staten Island, City University of New York; Adult Specialist Librarian, Brooklyn Public Library, Greenpoint Branch; author of three annotated bibliographies of Polish literature; editor and journalist. Title of Presentation: "Tadeusz Kosciuszko and Women of His Life."  

Panelist: Anthony J. Bajdek, of Hudson, NH; President / Founder, American Association of the Friends of Kosciuszko at West Point; Associate Dean (ret.) and Senior Lecturer in History, Northeastern University, Boston, MA; Vice President for American Affairs, Polish American Congress, Washington, DC. Title of presentation: "Fostering Sympathy for Poland in the Early American Republic: Niles' Register, 1811-1849."

Moderator: Stephen N. Olejasz, of Fairfax Station, VA; Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (ret.) and Former Assistant Professor of History, USMA, West Point, NY; Executive Vice President, American Association of the Friends of Kosciuszko at West Point.

11:30 a.m. USMA Cadet Review on The Plain (i.e., parade ground)

12:30 p.m. Annual Kosciuszko Observance at the Kosciuszko Monument, USMA, West Point, NY

02:00 p.m. Annual Kosciuszko Day Memorial Luncheon, George Washington Room, Thayer Hotel, 674 Thayer Road, USMA, West Point, NY (By prepaid reservation only. See below). Host, AAFKWP President / Founder Anthony J. Bajdek, and speakers yet to be determined, along with a presentation by a Cadet member of the Kosciuszko Squadron of West Point.

Luncheon and/or dinner and/or conference reservation payments must be received at the address below no later than April 21, 2017.

  • Without pre-payments and reservations, no admittance to the Conference, Dinner and Luncheon respectively will be permitted on the day of the event. As such, those wishing to join Association members for the Friday evening buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Thayer Hotel must also forward payment no later than April 21, 2017 as noted above.
